Life, the Universe and Everything.

Today I saw the first tennis players on the courts across the street, first convertible with its top down, first time the temp has hit 60s, the first mud dauber flying around the balcony, and the first time I’ve needed to use the beach umbrella on my balcony.
Lord, bless me, I love the spring!

All hail the blessed spring.
Finally after almost 2.5 weeks of no sun (some days of such dense fog that we couldn’t even see beyond the shoulder of the road) we are getting sunshine.
The flooding is getting to it’s peak. The creek east of Hannaford has broken its banks and the flood waters are flowing at a brisk pace over the land and have covered the park completely. There’s something mesmerizing about watching the flood waters run rampant over the land; the power contained within.
Always makes me think about baptism. For many people the baptism of a child is a family event when everyone gets together to get it done. It’s photo ops and reunions of people who haven’t seen each other for a while. When I see the flood waters I’m reminded of the power of the water of baptism and that there’s nothing childish about it. It’s waters of drowning and rebirth; it’s water that kills and brings us back to life. I remember at seminary one of my friends wondered what parents would do if we were to say at a child’s baptism, ‘we welcome you to a funeral.’ The Old Adam (Eve) is killed and a new creation is born.
That’s spring. New things are born out of the cold earth; the seed has died so that life can spring forth.
